(4) Taking up the 18" suction main and relaying same as a rising main, including the necessary length of piping to complete same.

As may be gathered none of the works which I now propose to undertake will be rendered abortive by those to be undertaken later, with the except- ion of the suction main, and as the pipes from it will be used for the add- itional rising main requirel, practically only the labour in laying them and taking them up again will be sacrificed,

19. If the works enumerated under paragraph 15 be undertaken at once, they should be completel in readiness for the dry season 1905-3 and it is even possible that some benefit may be derived from them during next dry season. I 30. I therefore request authority to obtain tenders for the works enumer- ated from contractors whom I consider qualified to carry them out in a satisfactory and expeditious manner.

21. On receiving the authority of His Excellency the Governor for the abov above, I will prepare a statement for transmission to Mr Chadwick giving

a full account of what has been lone up to the present time and of the works decided upon.
